Paul James O’Grady MBE DL was a comedian, broadcaster, actor, writer, and drag queen from England. 
He rose to prominence in the London LGBT scene in the 1980s with his drag queen persona Lily Savage, through which he earned wider recognition in the 1990s. O’Grady then discarded the role and became the host of several television and radio shows, notably The Paul O’Grady Show, in the 2000s.

Patrick “Paddy” Grady (1912-1973) was Irish and grew up in Ballincurry, County Roscommon, before coming to England in 1936 and living in the working-class neighborhood of Birkenhead.
When he joined the Royal Air Force, his name was changed from “Grady” to “O’Grady” due to a paperwork error, and he kept the new name. Patrick married Mary “Molly” Savage (1916-1988), the daughter of Irish immigrants from County Louth, in England. Paul was their third child, born more than a decade after brother Brendan (born 1941) and sister Sheila (born 1944)

Abel, O’Grady’s grandson, was born in December 2006, and a granddaughter was born in December 2009.

He was in a marriage of convenience with a Portuguese woman, Teresa Fernandes, from 1977 to 2005, albeit he was not in an active relationship with her.

Brendan Frank Murphy was his long-term lover and business partner (4 March 1956 – 9 June 2005). He stated in the fourth edition of his biography that he has “always had a predisposition for the bad boys.”

Many of her acquaintances referred to her as “Lily” or “Lil,” and she was well-known for having many high-profile and celebrity friends, including politician Mo Mowlam, actresses Amanda Mealing and Barbara Windsor, comedian Brenda Gilhooly, and others.
