British visual artist Paul Noble was born in Dilston, Northumberland, in 1963. Noble continued his education at Humberside College of Higher Education and Sunderland Polytechnic before moving to London in 1987.
He contributed to establishing the City Racing Gallery in London (1988-1988) and was one of the cooperative’s five founding members. Noble established Nobson Newtown, which is why he is so well-known. In 2000, Noble was given a prize by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
Artwork by Noble has been displayed at the Cubitt Gallery (1995), Chisenhale Gallery (1998), Tate Gallery (1999), and Whitechapel Art Gallery (2004). Paul Noble created a brand-new installation in October 2010 for the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
In 2011, Paul Noble displayed TENT, a show at Cooper Gallery, DJCAD, and the University of Dundee, and an artist’s book by the same name. Both are related to the artist’s expansive Nobson Newtown project.
