Paul Coker Jr was a cartoonist and designer who died on July 23 at the age of 93 at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Though some may not recognize Coker’s name, many will be familiar with his animation work, since some of his productions have subsequently become Christmas favorites.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Coker worked as a production designer for Rankin/Bass specials such as Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, where he helped develop the characters of Kris Kringle, Winter Warlock, and Burgermeister Meisterburger.
Coker was a regular writer to the parody magazine MAD, earning him a seat in their “Usual Gang of Idiots,” a moniker for MAD staff, in addition to his television work.
Coker satirized a variety of cultural franchises and properties with this magazine, including Star Trek, Jurassic Park, and Sabrina: The Teenage Witch.
