Patricia MacLachlan, an American children’s writer and award-winning novelist, who was popularly for the medal-winning novel, “Sarah, Plain and Tall”, has died at age 84, on March 31 in her home in Williamsburg.
The news about her death was confirmed by her son John MacLachlan.
Patricia MacLachlan was born on March 3, 1938, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, United States, and attended the University of Connecticut.
Her writing career started when she was 35-year-old.
Patricia MacLachlan’s genre of writing was children’s and young-adult novels and historical fiction and authored more than 60 children’s books.
Some of her books include Skylark in 1994, Caleb Story in 2002, More Perfect Than the Moon in 2004, and Grandfather’s Dance in 2009 among many others.
She received the Newbery Medal for her novel series “Sarah, Plain, and Tall” in 1986.
Patricia MacLachlan was a board member of the National Children’s Book and Literacy Alliance, a national not-for-profit organization that advocates for literacy, literature, and libraries.
