Patricia Nell Scott Schroeder, born July 30, 1940, and died March 13, 2023, was an American politician who served as Colorado’s representative in the House of Representatives from 1973 to 1997.

Schroeder, a Democrat, was elected as Colorado’s first female U.S. Congressman.

She married her Harvard Law School classmate Jim Schroeder on August 18, 1962, and they went to Denver, Colorado, where Jim worked as a lawyer. In 1966, Scott William and Jamie Christine, their first child, were born (born 1970).

From 1964 and 1966, Schroeder worked for the National Labor Relations Board. She taught in Denver’s public schools while serving as legal counsel for Planned Parenthood.

Schroeder was born in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of pilot and aviation insurance company owner Lee Combs Scott and Bernice (Lemoin), a first-grade teacher. As a young child, she relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, with her family.

She departed Des Moines after earning her diploma from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1958 and enrolled in the University of Minnesota, where she majored in history. Schroeder belonged to the sorority Chi Omega. She received her B.A. in 1961, and in 1964, she graduated from Harvard Law School with a J.D.
