Passengers on an American Airlines flight had to endure six hours on the runway waiting for the airline to fix an issue with the plane.
Some passengers experienced “panic attacks” due to the lack of food service and air conditioning. The aircraft was delayed because of issues with the fuel tank even though it was scheduled to take off at 1:07 p.m.
A tweet from one passenger who was also trapped on the plane read: “Entering hour 6 of sitting on a plane with no AC, no food, no drink service. Someone on the flight is having a mental breakdown. This is wild.”
According to a reporter who was on the boiling plane, the air conditioning was turned off to save fuel but was turned back on when some passengers started freaking out.
The spokesperson for the airline Andrew Trull explained that the flight was delayed both because of a mechanical issue and because of lightning in the vicinity.
