Parliament approves custodial sentence of 3 to 5 years for promotion of LGBTQ+

A minimum of three years and a maximum of five years in prison have been approved by Parliament for the deliberate promotion, sponsorship, or support of LGBTQ+ activities.

Additionally, those found guilty of the act could face a minimum sentence of six months and a maximum sentence of three years.

“What created the confusion was the establishment of an advocacy of the promotion of the activities, that is what Ghanaians are against,” explained Sam Nartey George, the MP for Ningo Prampram, during parliamentary proceedings on the clause-by-clause amendment of the bill on the promotion of proper human sexual rights and Ghanaian family values. What you do in your bedroom is of no interest to anyone.

Therefore, the minimum sentence for anyone caught in the act yesterday, February 7, is six months, and the maximum sentence is three years.

However, the minimum sentence for anyone intentionally promoting, sponsoring, or endorsing the agenda is three years, and the maximum sentence is five years.
