Owen Roizman was a cinematographer from the United States. Roizman was nominated for five Academy Awards for Best Cinematography for his work on the films The French Connection (1971), The Exorcist (1973), Network (1976), Tootsie (1982), and Wyatt Earp (1983). (1994). Roizman was president of the American Society of Cinematographers and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors.
Roizman made his feature film debut with Stop in 1970, after creating several television commercials. Roizman was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for his second film, William Friedkin’s The French Connection (1971). With “gritty New York street photography” and available light, the film established the style for many of his subsequent films.
