More than six hundred parents occupied the West African Examination Council (WAEC) office in Sunyani, Bono region, demanding that their children’s test results be made public.
Due to alleged exam irregularities, WAEC withheld the results of some applicants from the WASSCE held last year.
The testing authority informed the parents of the affected pupils that rewriting the exams was the only remaining alternative.
Parents who have put a lot of money into their kids’ education were furious over this WAEC decision.
The parents argued that since their children cannot be held accountable, they will not be permitted to redo any of their papers.
In an interview with Adom News, the parents’ spokesperson, Mr. Agyemang Prempeh, stated that the kids had done nothing wrong to merit this kind of punishment.
Instead, he asserted that WAEC-employed invigilators ought to take responsibility for their neglect of oversight over the pupils during exam writing.
Mr. Prempeh continued, saying that the innocent kids could not be held accountable for these officers’ carelessness.
Because the impacted children’s partners are already enrolled in postsecondary institutions, the irate parents demanded that the government step in.
Adom News, meanwhile, was unable to elicit a response from WAEC representatives in the area.
