Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, held a lavish celebration to mark the 25 years since he assumed the throne and became the monarch of the Ashanti Kingdom.
Presided over by the Asantehene at the Manhyia Palace, Asanteman celebrated the second Akwasidae of the year on Sunday, February 18, 2024, with a beautiful display of Akan culture and custom.
The Asantehene presided over the celebrations with dignity and power, enthralling guests with his skill at the well-known Akan dance, “adowa.”
Encircled by his devoted followers, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II captivated spectators with his deft footwork, outdoing his years with every elegant step.
Every six weeks on a Sunday, the Akwasidae Festival is held to honor and thank the ancestors for their protection.
Although all Ashanti Kingdom paramount chiefs observe the Akwasidae within their sphere of influence, the main event of the celebration is held in Kumasi’s Manhyia Palace, where the Asantehene is paid respect by both his subjects and guests.
