Joshua Makubu, the Oti Regional Minister, has urged the people of Nkwanta to put an end to the tribal conflicts in the area by avoiding conflict and sticking together.

Makubu conveyed his profound concern regarding the recent conflicts and violence within the municipality during a press conference on Thursday, February 1.

He emphasized the necessity of harmony and mutual understanding between the diverse tribes and pleaded for peaceful coexistence in the area.

“Progress becomes elusive without peace, which is the cornerstone of development. The regional minister said, “It is concerning to see our communities being torn apart by tribal conflicts, which only serves to impede the growth and prosperity we all seek.”

To promote growth and cohabitation, he therefore called on local authorities, traditional leaders, and citizens to embrace communication and reconciliation.

He emphasized the value of open communication and discourse in fostering unity among the tribal groups within the municipality.

All concerned parties are urged to approach the discussion with an open mind and heart. Let us give precedence to nonviolent communication over aggression, comprehension over ignorance, and harmony over discord. The minister emphasized, “We are stronger together.

The Minister announced plans to organize a peaceful summit with representatives from the warring tribes, community leaders, and other stakeholders, bringing residents and traditional leaders together as part of his initiative to promote peace.

Through open dialogue and a platform for open expression of grievances, the summit will provide a means for the various leaders and groups to work together to put an end to the tribal conflict.

Leaders in the community have already expressed support for the concept and promised to take part in the conversation aimed at resolving the conflict.

In the interim, property has been destroyed, approximately thirteen people have died, and more have been injured.

Due to the conflict, the academic calendar has also been delayed. The Nkwanta township has been placed under curfew, and schools have been temporarily closed.
