Osei Kwame Junior suggests salary reduction of Asante Kotoko players

Former Asante Kotoko defender Osei Kwame Junior has voiced out his concerns about the current state of the club, urging management to take drastic measures to address their poor performance in the Ghana Premier League.

The once-dominant Ghanaian giants have been struggling recently, suffering six defeats in their last seven games and managing to secure only one point during that period. This sharp decline in form has seen Kotoko go from title contenders to fighting for survival in the league.

In light of these disappointing results, Osei Kwame Junior believes that one way to motivate the players and instill a sense of seriousness is by reducing their salaries. He highlighted that even the lowest-paid player at the club, who is a junior player and also a student, earns a significant amount of GHS 2,000.

“I think it’s time management reduce the salary of these players. They are over pampered. The lowest paid player in Kotoko takes home GHS 2,000 who happens to be junior player who is also a student,” he remarked.

The former Kotoko left-back emphasized the importance of getting back on track and urged the players to step up their game, especially ahead of their upcoming match against league leaders Samartex. He also suggested that the club should consider letting go of underperforming players in order to bring in quality replacements.

“I understand the supporter’s plight, we are angry because we need good results going forward. Sack all lazy players from the club. Even if the coach gets sacked, the players should bear in mind that there will a total overhaul in the playing body. We need quality players in Kotoko if we want to win the league,” Osei Kwame Junior added.
