After earning his degree from Rome’s Santa Cecilia Conservatory, Oscar Ghiglia studied with Andrés Segovia, who served as a key inspiration and influence throughout his early years. Oscar Ghiglia later “inherited” Segovia’s lesson at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and, as a side gig to his concertizing, took his own teaching across the world.
He went to Greece in 2006 after retiring from the Basel Musik-Akademie in Switzerland, where he had been a guitar professor from 1983 to 2004. He had recently married Elena Papandreou, a former student and colleague who is currently a guitar professor at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki.
