Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been under fire from Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom, also known as Opambour, the founder and leader of the Ebenezer Miracle Worship Center, for his “driver-mate” analogy, which has incited outrage from the people.
He claims that Dr. Bawumia is unable to separate himself from the mess created by the Akufo-Addo administration because, despite not serving as president (the driver), he had a say in every policy enacted by his administration. For this reason, his parallel is unconvincing.
Dr. Bawumia’s driver-mate comparison, according to the pastor, exposes President Akufo-Addo to public mockery since the president is detaching himself from his administration to win over Ghanaians’ hearts before the general elections.
Opambour stated, “He (Dr. Bawumia) is implying that he is the mate so we should put all the blame on the driver?” during a speech on his Prophet 1 TV that GhanaWeb was able to watch.
Is he suggesting that, as the driver’s friend, there is nothing he can do to stop the driver from driving recklessly?
Opambour then went ahead and wrote a song for Dr. Bawumia using the E-Levy that the current government had instituted.
Recall that Dr. Bawumia asserted that his position in the administration is similar to that of a “driver’s mate” during his first significant speech as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, which was to present his vision for Ghana at the UPSA auditorium in Accra on February 7, 2024.
Furthermore, Dr. Bawumia pledged that Ghanaians should not evaluate him based on the effectiveness of the current administration since, if elected into “the driver’s seat,” he will pursue his priorities and vision.
