Olivia Wilde wins battle to keep child custody case in California

Olivia Wilde has emerged victorious in her legal battle against her ex-fiancé, Jason Sudeikis, over their child custody and support agreement. Sudeikis had been fighting to move the dispute to New York in the hopes of securing a better child support deal, as the state is typically less generous with such payments than California.

The decision is a significant win for Wilde, who had argued in court documents obtained by TMZ that Sudeikis was using the case as a way to “litigate Olivia into debt” and that she was unable to afford the expenses of such a prolonged legal battle. In the documents, Wilde’s lawyers stated, “While Jason can afford to spin his wheels with filing after filing, Olivia cannot.”

The legal dispute between Wilde and Sudeikis began to heat up last April after Sudeikis’ team served Wilde onstage at CinemaCon with legal papers stating that he was trying to move the custody case to New York. The move came as a surprise to Wilde, who had believed that they were negotiating in good faith.

Despite the setback, the battle between the former couple is far from over, with Wilde’s lawyers stating that Sudeikis had been secretly planning to move the case to New York behind her back. The lawyers also revealed that they were scheduled to begin working with a family therapist in California in mid-January, but the discovery of Sudeikis’ plans had put a halt to those negotiations.

The rejection of Sudeikis’ request to move the case to New York may incentivize him to settle the dispute in California. However, with tensions still running high between the former couple, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to reach an amicable agreement.
