Wilson lives in the States currently.

Wilson went pro in 2003 and competed on the Challenge Tour in 2004. He placed 15th on the Order of Merit and was promoted to the European Tour. He climbed the Order of Merit year after year, finishing 97th in 2005, 71st in 2006, 30th in 2007, 11th in 2008, and 7th in 2009.

Wilson has three top-ten performances on the European Tour in his debut season in 2005. In 2006, he lost in a play-off against Paul Casey at the Volvo China Open, and in 2007, he finished second twice. Wilson finished second four times in 2008, including a playoff loss to Miguel Angel Jiménez at the BMW PGA Championship.

Wilson regained his form in mid-2018. He qualified for the 2018 Open Championship via Final Qualifying, his first major since 2010, finished tied for 29th in the Porsche European Open the week after the Open and won the Swedish Challenge on the second hole of a playoff the following week.

Wilson has previously lost four European Tour playoffs as well as a playoff in the 2013 Northern Ireland Open Challenge. He finished 17th in the Challenge Tour Order of Merit, just missing out on a European Tour spot for 2019.

Wilson finished third at the South African Open in December 2018. His high finish and tiebreaker world were a part of the Open Qualifying Series.
