Ghana’s premier ladies’ school, Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Ladies Senior High School, celebrated its 70th anniversary in traditional fashion. As the special guest of honor, the Second Lady of the Republic, Her Excellency Samira Bawumia, was welcomed to the week-long celebration, which culminated in a gala durbar on February 3.

However, with a focus on commemorating the school’s history and looking to the future, the celebration, with the theme “Reminiscing 70 Years of Holistic Catholic Education: The Role of Stakeholders in Embracing Technology and Entrepreneurship for the Future,” began on January 30 with a walk.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Bawumia, who had a personal connection to girls’ education, praised OLA Girls for its steadfast dedication to comprehensive education and its noteworthy role in the advancement of the country. Also, she praised the Ho-based school for its ability to develop excellent children’s lasting values and academic brilliance. She commended the school for its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who would contribute positively to society.

Nonetheless, to maintain competitiveness going forward, she stressed the critical need to further integrate technology into all facets of the company’s operations.

“Recent advancements, such as COVID-19, have brought attention to how crucial technology is to education. The school’s core values may be upheld while preparing pupils for future difficulties through exposure to computer programs and artificial intelligence, the speaker said. Headmistress Benedicta Agbezudor conveyed her appreciation to the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Trust Fund for the government’s assistance in enhancing the school’s physical facilities.

She did, however, draw attention to important issues and make a request for additional support, stating that doing so would help eliminate some roadblocks that were preventing academic success. All of our current classrooms are packed and unable to hold the more than 4,000 girls that attend. Our two buses can only go as far as Ho, so there aren’t many transit options, and two of our traditional dorms require renovations.

We implore the government, through Her Excellency, to give OLA girls top priority when resolving these problems, particularly with the cars,” the woman said. Still, the headmistress promised the school would keep vying for top awards both nationally and regionally.
