The new District Police Headquarters building has been put into service, catering to the residents of Bediem in the Obuasi Municipality and the neighboring settlements.
It is expected that the new facility’s operation will make a substantial difference in the crime rate in that area of the mining town.
During the commissioning event, AngloGold Ashanti was thanked by ACP George Ankomah, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, for granting the police access to such a splendid facility.
He warned against taking the law into their own hands to punish suspected offenders and advised neighbors living close to the police headquarters to report any criminal instances to the officers for inquiry.
He also requested AngloGold Ashanti to give the police lodging and cars so they could do their jobs more easily.
The safety and security of the populace must always be taken into account while discussing development, according to Emmanuel Baidoo, Senior Manager of Community Relations for Africa at AGA.
Accordingly, he said, AGA and interested parties intended to build the new plant at Bediem.
Mr. Baidoo continued, saying that the new District Police Headquarters cost GH¢2.13 million in total and has all the offices fully furnished.
