Anderson claims that her daughter learned about the challenge from TikTok’s “for you page,” which displays users videos based on an algorithm, in her case filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
According to the lawsuit, TikTok’s “algorithm judged that the lethal Blackout Challenge was well-tailored and likely to be of interest to 10-year-old Nylah Anderson, and she died as a result.”

Before succumbing to her injuries, she spent five days in a pediatric intensive care unit.
