Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has brought joy to nursing and teacher trainees by announcing the release of outstanding allowances for 2024.

The allowances, which were reinstated by the Akufo-Addo government after being canceled by the previous Mahama government, had been stalled in recent months.

During a gathering with the youth in Nalerigu, in the North East Region, Dr. Bawumia shared this good news with the attendees, which included nursing and teacher trainees. The announcement was met with cheers and jubilation from the crowd.

Dr. Bawumia revealed that the Controller and Accountant General will transfer GH¢177 million to the Ministry of Health, which will then disburse the funds to the nursing trainees. He assured the trainees that they should expect to receive their allowances in their accounts by next week.

The excitement among the youth was palpable, especially from the nursing trainees who openly celebrated and praised Dr. Bawumia for the announcement. The nursing training allowance is a crucial stipend for many trainees, making this news all the more significant.

Dr. Bawumia took the opportunity to reiterate the NPP’s commitment to supporting the youth and highlighted the party’s pro-poor policies. He contrasted this with the actions of the NDC, particularly pointing out that the NPP reinstated the nursing and teacher trainee allowances after they were canceled by the NDC.

As the announcement reverberates across various campuses, it underscores the importance of government support for nursing and teacher trainees. Dr. Bawumia’s assurance of the allowances being disbursed soon brings much-needed relief to the trainees who rely on this support.
