Hanson Dartey, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) youth organizer for the Spain branch, has announced his departure from the organization.
Mr. Dartey said the decision is effective immediately and that the party has totally strayed from its guiding ideals. He resigned, citing differences in the party from when he joined in 1996.
“It’s no longer about the values that brought me to the party, like fighting corruption and building the nation,” Mr. Dartey said.
He said that the NPP had given in to corruption and greed in a long letter written to the director of international affairs at the organization’s headquarters.
“I have to inform party leaders of the circumstances that led to this regrettable decision before I can step down. I’m leaving the party because its members have been corrupt and avaricious, failing the people of Ghana.a
“The party’s leaders have taken an individualistic stance, putting their own interests ahead of those of the organization. It is upsetting to see this break from the ideals upheld by leaders I looked up to, such Dr. Busia, J.B. Danquah, Da Rocha, and J.H. Mensah,” parts of the letter said.
