Supporters of Hajia Habibata Shani Mahama are calling for a repeat of the parliamentary elections, which is causing tension in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Yendi constituency.
This is in response to the misunderstanding that hampered the ballot counting following the parliamentary primaries on January 27.
Speaking to the media, Alhaji Mohammed Kpermsin, the MASLOC leader’s spokesperson, claimed that the parliamentary election in the Yendi constituency was not yet complete.
As a result, he declared that any choice other than a rerun would be rejected.
After the rerun, the supporters said they would be willing to support the winner of the election.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party has been given a seven-day ultimatum by Alhaji Mohammed and his group to arrange a re-run in the constituency or face their fury.
A standoff resulted from the intense competition between Hajia Abibata Zakariah, CEO of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), and incumbent member of parliament Farouk Aliu Mahama.
The NPP leadership is currently looking into the situation to determine how to proceed.
