Henry Quartey, the Regional Minister for Greater Accra, won 594 valid votes in the New Patriotic Party’s Saturday, January 27 Parliamentary Primary after successfully retaining his Ayawaso Central nomination.
With this win, he has now held the position for four times in a row. Moses Abor, a former New Patriotic Party youth organizer for Greater Accra, received 326 votes, making him his rival.
Four votes were returned unapproved in the constituency. According to the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Quartey felt certain he would win and keep the Ayawaso seat before the election.
He expressed gratitude to God for giving him life and to the Party for taking all the required steps to guarantee that the exercise would be unrestricted, equitable, and clear of any miscommunication.
But Mr. Moses Abor, another contender hoping to unseat Mr. Quartey, bragged about his accomplishments over the years and claimed to be the people’s choice.
“By the grace of God, I will carry the day and bring the spirit back to Ayawaso Central. I’ve worked with the people, I’ve been with them since I was a Polling Station Youth Organiser, Polling Station Chairman, Deputy Constituency Youth Organiser, three-term Assembly member, two-term Regional Youth Organiser so I’ve been there and they see me as their own” he stated.
