The Walewale Member of Parliament (MP), Lariba Zuweira Abudu, has obtained an injunction against Dr. Abdul-Karibu Tia Mahama, her opponent, following her defeat in the recently concluded New Patriotic Party (NPP) primary event.
Election results on Saturday were announced as follows: Madam Abudu, who is also the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, received 334 votes, while presidential staffer Dr. Mahama received 343.
Jangdow Mahama received one vote while Tahir Sham-An received 145 from other competitors.
The newly elected MP filed an ex-parte motion in the Tamale High Court to challenge the election results because he was not happy with the outcomes.
She asks for a restraining order in the move to stop the declared winner from declaring herself the NPP’s parliamentary candidate-elect for the Walewale seat. In response, the restraining order was granted by the court for ten days.
During this period, the applicant, who is also the plaintiff, has the opportunity to formally notify and call the defendants to bring the issue to their attention.
This legal action is a demonstration of the MP’s dissatisfaction with the election results and her resolve to seek a fair resolution through the legal system.
