In the general elections of 2024, Charles Bissue, a former secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Committee Against Illegal Mining (IMCIM), will run on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket for the parliamentary seat representing the Essikando-Ketan Constituency.
With 333 votes, he prevailed in the constituency’s parliamentary primary. He defeated Giovanni Agyemang, who received 199 votes, and Anna Meizah, who received 234 votes.
With strict security, the voting process, which began at 0705 hours, was mainly uneventful. The delegates arrived on schedule for the vote, left the center, and came back before 1400 hours to support the candidate they thought would win.
Joe Ghartey, the sitting Member of Parliament, has chosen not to run for office again after years of service, leaving Charles Bissue in the driver’s seat.
When the constituency was divided from the bigger Sekondi constituency in 2004, Mr. Ghartey was first elected to the post.
Mr. Bissue was one of the people the OSP brought charges against at the Accra High Court for allegedly taking money from Anas Aremeyaw Anas, an undercover journalist.
On June 2, Mr. Bissue filed an application for judicial review, claiming that the OSP had violated Act 959 by looking into him alone rather than looking into Anas Aremeyaw of Tiger Eye PI. In the instance of Mr. Bissue, Anas acknowledged his involvement in the offense.
