NPP primaries: A former MP makes a stunning comeback in Ablekuma North

A former Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma North Nana Akua Afriyie has won the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries. Nana Akua on Saturday, January 27, 2024, polled 756 votes to win the slot.

After winning 637 votes, Nana Akua Afriyie defeated only one opponent former member of parliament Sheila Bartels to exact a triumphant retribution. Fortunes had turned against Nana Akua Afriyie, who had lost to Sheila Bartels in June 2020, but this triumph was a turnabout.

In that election, Nana Akua Afriyie, one of three candidates, garnered 315 votes, while Sheila Bartels garnered 518, easily winning the constituency. An important change in support for Nana Akua Afriyie was shown in the recent election.

Subsequently, Nana Akua Afriyie was selected as the Deputy Ambassador to China, a further testament to her political and diplomatic relevance given her qualifications and services.

This journey from electoral failure to political triumph reminds us of just how fluid political climes are and just how resilient humans can be when faced with difficulties.
