The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to hold its parliamentary primary in the Ejisu Constituency today, Saturday, April 13, 2024, to choose a candidate to run in the upcoming by-election. This follows the unfortunate passing of the late MP John Kumah on March 7, 2024.

Nine aspirants have been cleared by the vetting committee to contest in the primary after picking up nomination forms on Thursday, April 4. The nomination process was opened on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, and all aspiring candidates were given the green light to participate in the primary.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has scheduled the by-election for April 30, 2024, to fill the vacancy left by the 45-year-old MP who succumbed to a brief illness. John Kumah is survived by his wife and six children.

As of now, no other political party has indicated interest in participating in the upcoming by-election. The National Democratic Congress is still deliberating on whether to field a candidate for the Ejisu Constituency seat.
