The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has called on the public to regularly check the condition of the rubber seals and hoses in their LPG cylinders.
Speaking at a series of awareness and sensitization campaigns held in the Upper West, Savannah, Bono East, Bono, and Ahafo regions, NPA Consumer Services Manager, Mrs Eunice Budu Nyarko, urged people to take their cylinders to LPG dealers for safety checks and replacement of worn-out hoses and seals. She warned against repairing damaged hoses and seals by owners and emphasized the need for proper hose clips.
The NPA, in collaboration with Lyme Haus Solutions and the Ghana National Fire and Rescue Service, conducted the awareness campaign to encourage people to switch from firewood and charcoal to LPG usage. Mrs. Nyarko also advised the public to keep LPG cylinders outside the kitchen on wooden platforms with roofs to prevent rust and damage.
NPA Communications Manager, Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Kudus, also stressed the safety and convenience of LPG as a cooking fuel and warned against using mobile phones at fuel stations.
Meanwhile, the Bono Regional Manager, Mr Kwadwo Odarno Appiah, cautioned motorists to switch off their engines when buying fuel, while a safety officer with the GNFRS, ADOII Emmanuel Kyeremeh, encouraged the public to keep fire extinguishers in their homes and vehicles.
