Northern Ireland welcomes King Charles III and Queen Consort

On his first trip as king, King Charles III has landed in Northern Ireland.

He landed at Belfast City Airport with Camilla, the Queen Consort, by his side. The two then made their way to Hillsborough.

To welcome the King, hundreds of people have congregated in the County Down community.

The castle has served as the focal point for flower tributes because it is the only royal residence in Northern Ireland.

The Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly, Alex Maskey, conveyed a note of condolence to the King before he met privately with Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris and prominent members of Stormont’s major parties.

Later, the Royal couple will attend a liturgy at St. Anne’s Cathedral in Belfast with Prime Minister Liz Truss.

To gain an excellent view of the new King, the people in Hillsborough started to assemble before daybreak.

Sharon Douglas from Carryduff, near Belfast, and the sisters Norma McKinney, Vanessa Patten, and Rhonda Irvine from Ballymena, County Antrim, were among the first to arrive.
