Member of Parliament for the Nhyiaeso Constituency, Dr. Stephen Amoah, has expressed his support for the government’s decision not to introduce new taxes in the mid-year budget review, citing it as a step in the right direction.
In response to criticism from the Minority, Dr. Amoah defended Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam’s empathetic remarks towards Ghanaians facing hardships. He emphasized that the government is actively working to address these challenges and improve the country’s economic situation.
During an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story, Dr. Amoah highlighted the government’s focus on social interventions to provide relief to citizens. He mentioned initiatives such as launching Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and allocating approximately GH₵8.2 billion to create jobs and support entrepreneurs.
Dr. Amoah also pointed out that the government has disbursed around GH₵5.4 billion to support programs like the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) and the school feeding program since 2004. These efforts are aimed at reducing the burden on citizens and improving their quality of life.
According to the Deputy Finance Minister, the government’s immediate priority is to stabilize the economy. He highlighted the current inflation rate as an indicator of the government’s progress in achieving economic stability.
Dr. Amoah reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Ghanaians and emphasized the importance of social interventions in providing relief and support to citizens in need.
