In the country’s payroll database, there are no longer any ghost names, according to Controller and Accountant General Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem.
According to Bossompem, this was made possible by the recently adopted all-digital solution. The National Identification Authority (NIA) database and the Government of Ghana (GOG) National Mechanized Payroll Database from the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) are integrated in this novel system.
To ensure greater accessibility and convenience, the real-time biometric validation and verification process is decentralized to multiple CAGD verification centers across the nation.
Nonetheless, Bosompem is cautioning that any employee in the public sector who does not possess a Ghana Card runs the risk of losing their job, starting in March 2024.
On the fringes of the 2024 Controller and Accountant General’s Department Annual Conference in Kumasi, he was giving a speech.
“The payroll database has been operational for many years. It simply means that we’ve gone through the process of implementing intervention to ensure the payroll database is reliable and that we won’t ever come across a situation where someone who isn’t authorized is on the payroll and getting benefits from government resources.
In response to inquiries from reporters, Bosompem stated, “…as of late, there are no ghost names [on the government’s payroll].”
