“No more fishing in August. Our supplies are reducing” – Mr Ato Cudjo (Dep. Fisheries Minister)

The Deputy Minister for Fisheries in  Ghana Mr. Ato Cudjo has today (July 17) said the government was considering a close season on fishing this year in August so as to help fishes recover and not collapse.

Speaking on the Starr FM morning show, Mr. Ato Cudjo said “It is very important that we have a close season this year because our fish stock is reducing’‘.

He also added that ”It’s going to be part of our laws to have a Close Season every August“.

He further clarified that various meetings have been held with stakeholders in the industry so as to ascertain the impact the decision may have on the economy and the best way forward.

Fishermen in fishing communities like Jamestown could he explained, fish now till 7th August prior to the Homowwo celebrations after which they are to stop till the end of August.
