At the age of 94, former Soviet premier Nikolai Ryzhkov passed away. The Federation Council chairperson of the Russian parliament, which is the upper house, made the announcement on February 28.

In January 1991, Ryzhkov’s heart attack forced him to resign from his position. Following the announcement of hs death, the recise cause of his demise wasn’t stated.
After the USSR fell apart, he went into exile, but he later entered Russian politics again in 1995 after winning a seat in the lower house of parliament. He remained there until 2003, when he was elected to the upper house.
