Delta State, Nigeria is currently in distress following the recent kidnapping of Nigerian singer, Goodnews Emuemu, popularly known as Gnewzy.

The artist, signed to Eric Many Records, was abducted on Monday morning while returning from a performance.

The incident occurred on Eklat Road in the Ughelli area of Delta State. Gnewzy’s manager, Obas9ice, who was also present during the kidnapping, reported that armed individuals in police uniforms stopped their car and took the singer away.

According to reports from The Punch, the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of $200,000 for the safe return of the artist.

The email sent to the record label reads, “Hi, Dilly. You have seven days to pay $200,000 for your artist, Gnewzy, or we will send out his head. We will send you an email in five days on location for drop-off. Involve the police or mark the money, and he will be killed.”

In response to the kidnapping, a social media campaign with the hashtag #FREEGNEWZY has been initiated, with an Instagram post by Obas9ice urging for the singer’s release.

Eric Many Records released a statement confirming the incident and stated that they are working closely with law enforcement agencies to secure Gnewzy’s safe return. The record label appealed to the public for any information that could help in resolving the situation.

The artist’s manager has been cooperating with the police in Ughelli, providing details of the abduction. The statement from the record label also mentioned their engagement with senior police officials to facilitate the prompt release of Gnewzy.

As the situation unfolds, concern and solidarity have been expressed by fans and well-wishers, hoping for a swift resolution and the safe return of the talented singer.
