Nigerian artiste pleads for forgiveness over naira abuse after Bobrisky’s conviction

In light of recent investigations and crackdowns on Nigerian celebrities accused of misusing the Naira, singer Portable is now seeking forgiveness.

Portable took to Instagram in a live video to plead with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to show leniency if they have evidence of him spraying money. He acknowledged his mistakes and vowed not to repeat them.

During the live video, Portable demonstrated his generosity by offering to transfer funds to his fans and those in need. He emphasized that his intention was not to deface the currency but to help those in his community.

His plea comes in the wake of another Nigerian celebrity, Cubana Chief Priest, facing charges for violating the Central Bank Act of 2007. The EFCC has announced its commitment to prosecuting celebrities found guilty of Naira abuse, reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards such offenses.

This announcement follows the recent conviction of crossdresser Bobrisky, who was sentenced to six months in prison for Naira mutilation. The judge emphasized that Bobrisky’s punishment serves as a deterrent to others engaging in similar practices.

Portable’s appeal for forgiveness has garnered attention on social media, sparking discussions about the consequences of misusing the Naira. The public is urged to abide by the laws governing currency usage to avoid legal implications.
