Equatorial Guinea held the Super Green Eagles of Nigeria to a 1-1 draw in Group A match two. Salvador gave Equatorial Guinea the lead over the Super Green Eagles of Nigeria in the 37th minute.

Equatorial Guinea, which is ranked 46 places lower than Nigeria, celebrated wildly after taking the lead but conceded immediately after the restart when Osimhen converted Ademola Lookman’s cross and spent the majority of the game under pressure.

The Super Eagles entered the Africa Cup of Nations as heavy favourites, led by African Player of the Year Victor Osimhen. They faced Equatorial Guinea in Group A’s first match, a team that had been eliminated in the round of 16 at the previous AFCON and was looking to pull off an upset against the tournament favourite.

Nigeria, using an attacking strategy led by Peseiro, created opportunities that were not converted. Equatorial Guinea, on the other hand, scored in the 37th minute on their first and only shot on goal, through Iban Salvador.

Equatorial Guinea appeared to be on track until Nigeria equalized a minute later with four passes and a header from Osimhen, who started from midfield. In the second half, Nigeria went on the offensive, hoping to rack up points and see their efforts rewarded on the scoreboard.

Following the draw, Nigeria is temporarily third in Group A, while Equatorial Guinea is second with the same points. At the end of the first day of the Africa Cup of Nations, Ivory Coast leads the group.
