Gibbs, a striker who was nine years old at the time, attended How Wood Primary School in the Hertfordshire city of St. Albans and helped his team win a district six-a-side championship. Gibbs joined Watford’s training program at a young age, supported the team, and was there in Vicarage Road’s Main Stand in 1978 as Watford won the Fourth Division championship.
He was a part of Watford’s youth program, but due to St Albans City’s close proximity to his house and school, he occasionally played for their young squad. He also participated in under-14 to under-16 level sports for Hertfordshire schools.
Nigel Gibbs siblings: Who are Nigel Gibbs’s siblings?
The public is unaware of Nigel Gibbs’ siblings.
Gibbs, who was once a striker, converted to right-back as a teenager. He also had success with Watford’s young sides, participating in the Southern Junior Floodlit Cup final and the opening leg of the youth team’s 1982 FA Youth Cup victory over Manchester United (7-6 on aggregate).
He was called up to England’s youth squad as a result of these exploits, and he played nine times for them. However, Gibbs played midfield for the reserves after enrolling as an apprentice in July 1982.
The 17-year-old Gibbs was put on a steak and Guinness diet in an effort to “beef him up” because first-team manager Graham Taylor was concerned about his ability to handle the physicality of being a first-team fullback because of his height.
