Ghanaian winger, Nico Williams, found the back of the net for Athletic Bilbao in their recent La Liga match against Atletico Madrid, but it wasn’t enough to secure a victory for his team. The match ended in a 3-1 defeat for Bilbao, with Atletico Madrid taking the win.

Nico Williams started the game alongside his brother, Inaki Williams, who was substituted in the 81st minute. The head-to-head record between the two teams before the game favored Atletico Madrid, who had won 19 matches compared to Bilbao’s 10 wins.

Despite Bilbao having more possession, Atletico Madrid managed to create more goal-scoring opportunities and ultimately emerged victorious. Rodrigo De Paul opened the scoring for Atletico Madrid in the 15th minute, but Nico Williams equalized for Bilbao just before halftime.

However, Atletico Madrid regained the lead in the second half, with Ángel Correa finding the back of the net in the 52nd minute. The game was put to bed in the 81st minute when Bilbao’s goalkeeper, Unai Simón, scored an own goal, sealing the win for Atletico Madrid.

Nico Williams has been in fine form this season, having played 27 games, scored four goals, and provided eight assists in La Liga. Despite the defeat, his performance in the game against Atletico Madrid was a bright spot for Bilbao.
