Because he did not register as a sex offender, Nicki Minaj’s husband was given a year of home detention.
Because he was convicted of an attempted rape in 1995, Kenneth Petty was compelled to notify the authorities whenever he relocated.
Nicki Minaj’s husband given a one-year home arrest sentence
The 44-year-old, though, acknowledged skipping this step when he moved to California with Nicki Minaj in 2019.
According to the US Attorney’s Office, he has now received a term and a $55,000 (£46,000) punishment.
If their address changes, registered sexual offenders have five days to update their information, according to US law.
Petty first entered a not guilty plea to this at a court appearance in 2020, but he modified his plea in September of last year.
At his most recent appearance, the prosecution argued that home arrest was not strict enough and wanted the judge to sentence Petty to more time in jail.
Nicki Minaj shared a photo of her husband and son on Instagram a few hours after the sentence.
Petty started dating the rapper in late 2018. The two are said to have known one another since they were young.
They got married the following year and have since welcomed a son.
Due to his criminal history, their relationship has generated controversy, which Nicki has defended her lover against.
