Jeremy Hunt was born as the eldest son of Admiral Sir Nicholas Hun and his wife Meriel Eve Givan. His mother, who later became Lady Hunt, was the daughter of Major Henry Cooke Givan.

Admiral Sir Nicholas John Streynsham Hunt was a senior Royal Navy officer and was the Commander-in-Chief of Fleet from 1985 to 1987. He has also served as Deputy Managing Director at Eurotunnel and Director-General of the Chamber of Shipping.

He had three children with his wife; two sons and a daughter. His wife, Lady Hunt, passed away in 2022.

He died at his home on October 25, 2013, at the age of 82
