On September 24, 1962, Vardalos was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is the daughter of Greek-Canadian land developer Constantine “Gus” Vardalos, who was born in Kalavryta, Greece, and Doreen Christakos, a bookkeeper and homemaker.
She went to Ryerson University in Toronto after graduating from St. George School and Shaftesbury High School in Winnipeg.
She rose to stardom with her role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, a film about a woman’s search for love. Both the critical and financial success of the movie.
