As National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Mahama continues his “Building the Ghana We Want” campaign tour, prominent party figures in the south are vying for his attention in order to become the party’s vice president.

Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of Asogli State, is the most recent name to appear on the list of contenders. He may be the NDC’s running mate in the 2024 elections.

The most recent development occurs despite the fact that Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the former minister of education and running mate of former president John Dramani Mahama in the 2020 election, is still a strong candidate for the job.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s prospects seem to have improved after Joyce Bawa Mogtari, the NDC flagbearer’s special assistant, supported her boss’s reelection as running mate in the 2024 elections.

The NDC flag bearer’s decision is guided by its constitution, which outlines who is allowed to run alongside them at any given time. At the Obaasima Academy’s Accra opening, Mrs. Bawa Mogtari remarked, “I’m sure he has a whole gamut of individuals to choose from, and I have no doubt in my mind that Naana Opoku-Agyemang will still come up for enormous considerations.”
