The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns and demanded answers from the Electoral Commission (EC) regarding the theft of Biometric Verification Registration devices and laptops ahead of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.

During the latest NDC Moment of Truth series, the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, disclosed 35 questions that were posed to the EC at the last Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on April 9. These questions are aimed at aiding in investigation and prosecution, as well as preventing the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

Key questions include the status and particulars of the stolen components, such as the number of missing kits, serial numbers, and inventory records. The NDC also seeks information on the investigation, arrest, and prosecution process, including details on when the EC became aware of the theft, the reporting to the police, and the involvement of individuals in charge of the missing items.

Additionally, concerns were raised about the possible compromise of voters’ data stored on the stolen kits, as well as protocols for storing and deploying such devices at the EC headquarters.

The NDC aims to ensure accountability and transparency in addressing the theft and preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.
