Ndc parliamentary candidate raises concerns over electoral commission’s handling of biometric equipment

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Guan, Fred Agbenyo, has raised concerns about the transparency and integrity of Ghana’s electoral process. Speaking on various issues, the candidate emphasized the importance of fair elections and questioned the Electoral Commission’s (EC) ability to ensure a level playing field.

Agbenyo, while addressing the media, emphasized that the NDC is not a party that cries foul unnecessarily, but rather seeks to uphold democratic principles. He emphasized the impact that elections can have on countries globally and stressed the need for free, fair, and transparent elections in Ghana.

One of the key issues highlighted by Agbenyo was the missing Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) at the EC’s facilities. Initially, the EC denied the disappearance of these devices, but later admitted during an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting that the items were indeed missing, leading to a police investigation.

Questioning the protocols in place at the Electoral Commission, Agbenyo raised concerns about the accountability of such critical equipment. He pointed out that each item at the EC is assigned to a specific officer and has a unique code, making it difficult for anything to go missing without trace.

Furthermore, Agbenyo expressed skepticism about the impartiality of the EC’s IT department, alleging that individuals with connections to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are involved. He also highlighted instances where election results were allegedly manipulated, leading to changes in announced results multiple times.

Despite these concerns, Agbenyo reiterated the NDC’s commitment to ensuring peace and integrity in Ghana’s electoral process. He emphasized the party’s determination to uphold the will of the people and ensure that whoever is elected by the citizens will assume the presidency on the designated date.

It is clear from Agbenyo’s statements that there are serious concerns about the upcoming elections and the role of the Electoral Commission in ensuring a transparent and credible electoral process in Ghana.
