The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primary for the Odododiodio constituency in Greater Accra was won by Alfred Kotey Ashie.
The NDC’s Functional Executive Committee disqualified Michael Nii Yarboi Annan from the primary, alleging non-qualification in accordance with the evidence submitted and Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution.
The primary had been delayed because of litigation. Members are required by this article to participate in constituency-level activities during the four years preceding the nomination date.
Annan, who was not happy about being disqualified, went to court to get an injunction, which caused the primary to be postponed indefinitely. Nonetheless, on January 21, 2024, the NDC approved the primary’s continuation following the case’s dismissal.
Alfred Nii Kortey Ashie was re-elected as the parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodio seat after receiving 1209 votes, more than Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea’s 952 votes. With this win, the legal challenges that had momentarily stalled the constituency’s democratic process have been resolved.
