A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Brogya Genfi, has revealed that the party has records of an explosion in the Volta region prior to the 2016 election.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Mr. Genfi stated that although he cannot confirm the exact nature of the explosion, it was documented in border constituencies such as Aflao and Buem.
This disclosure comes following allegations by Hopeson Adorye, a prominent member of the Movement for Change (M4C), who claimed that the NPP used dynamite to intimidate voters in the Volta region before the 2016 election. According to Mr. Adorye, the detonation of dynamite led to a decrease in voter turnout as residents fled for safety.
In connection to his claims, Mr. Adorye was arrested and detained at the Ministries Police Station before being charged with publishing false news. He has since been granted bail pending further investigations.
The NDC has tagged the incident as a deliberate attempt to scare voters in the region and influence the election outcome.
The case continues to unfold as both parties stand by their respective narratives.
