NDC and NPP supporters clash over bridge construction at Awutu Akomatom

In the Awutu Senya West constituency, there has been conflict between supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding the building of a bridge at the Awutu Akomatom community.

Paul Aidoo, the NPP’s constituency chairman, claims that during Eugene Arhin, the party’s parliamentary candidate,’s visit, the locals asked for the building of a bridge.

On the other hand, the NDC claimed that they had also held community meetings about the bridge’s construction last week, and that the MP, Gizella Tetteh Agbotui, had promised to start work on the project this week with cement. However, as work on the bridge began, however, supporters of the NPP’s parliamentary candidate invaded the area.

The police’s prompt intervention stopped the situation from getting worse. “The community informed us that they needed a bridge when we arrived here on Sunday to conduct a campaign. As soon as we started the procedures, the NDC suddenly started to encroach. If the NDC had really come and made promises, the people would have told us that they had promised to build the bridge. The MP, Gizella Tetteh, hasn’t built the bridge for them, so why is she making this promise now? One NPP backer informed Citi News.

“During a community durbar, MP Gizella Tetteh addressed the Akomatom community and pledged to start building the bridge. Another NDC supporter added, “She even gave the community 20 bags of cement, so I don’t know why Eugene Arhin is doing that, knowing very well that Gizella has started.”
