The management of Salt FM disregarded repeated requests to renew their authorization, according to the National Communications Authority (NCA), which has supported the station’s closure on Agogo.
On Tuesday, some residents of Agogo staged street demonstrations in response to the NCA’s closure of Salt FM.
Citing a well-attended walk that Mr. Frimpong recently organized, some locals think the closure was the product of political motives.
There have also been allegations that a member of the ruling government who is launching a rival radio station may have had an impact on the NCA’s decision.
On the other hand, the NCA’s Ashanti Regional Office denied any political motivations behind the radio station’s closure.
It stated that several similar exercises are being conducted all over the nation, so the move to shut down Salt FM was not unique.
Officials from the NCA’s Kumasi office insisted that Salt FM’s closure was appropriate even though they would not comment on the record.
