Navalny’s widow pledged to keep fighting

The remarkable widow of Aleksei Navalny and the head of the Russian opposition, Yulia Navalnaya, vowed to carry on her husband’s struggle against the despotic rule of President Vladimir Putin.

In addition, Navalny, who died at a penal colony on Friday, spent years denouncing Putin and the corruption he saw within his government. Navalnaya had generally avoided the spotlight before yesterday, but she claimed she had to fill the void left by Navalny’s passing in the opposition movement.

“On my husband’s YouTube channel, I will carry on the work of Aleksei Navalny and defend our nation,” Navalnaya declared. “I want you to feel my fury—to feel my fury, anger, and hatred of those who have dared to kill our future.”

On the other hand, the dangers Navalnaya faces in trying to unite the fractured pro-democracy movement against Putin are significant. The primary investigators of her husband’s foundation were sent into exile after the government dissolved it in 2021 designating it as an extremist organization.

Yet, because of her affiliation with the organization, Navalnaya may face arrest if she goes back to Russia.
