President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed his disappointment in the under-utilisation of national service personnel in government institutions. He highlighted the government’s investment in the National Service Scheme and the expectation of returns on this investment.

During the launch of the National Service Policy Document, President Akufo-Addo announced plans to regulate deployment processes and enhance learning opportunities for national service personnel. He emphasized the need to introduce pedagogy training in collaboration with the National Teaching Council to improve teaching and learning and complement efforts to enhance the pupil-teacher ratio.

Furthermore, the President outlined various initiatives in the National Service policy document aimed at elevating the National Service Scheme. These initiatives include implementing an MSME accounting program to formalise the informal sector, forming specialised partnerships to boost tourism through the NSS support program, and expanding experimental agricultural programs for national service personnel under the Sekyere Kumawu economy enclave.

Additionally, a metric application system will be implemented to enhance efficiency and eliminate waste and redundancy. ICT hubs will also be established to provide IT training tailored to meet the community’s needs across Ghana.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized that these measures are geared towards ensuring that trained service personnel are effectively used to make meaningful contributions to the community. He urged all stakeholders to support the scheme in achieving its objectives and solidify its position as one of the best in West Africa and the Africa region for deploying service personnel.

It is expected that with the implementation of the new policy, the National Service Scheme will play a more significant role in shaping the future of the nation and empowering the youth to realize their potential.
